Who's Behind the Wandering Mind

The author on Cape Cod, circa 1970.

The author at home, circa 2019.

I was born, raised, and still live in New Jersey.  I'm not opposed to moving elsewhere though.  I lived in New York City, and I'd live there again.  I'd also move to Boston; Washington, DC; Paris, or London if the opportunity came up.

I do feel most at home at the shore though.  Probably something about being a Pisces and that Neptune thing.  That, and I'd prefer to be barefoot 95% of the time.

My significant other and I dated in high school.  We went our separate ways when we went to college.  A month or so after college graduation, we ran into each other (literally) in a crowded bar in Washington, DC.  Turned out we were both there as participants in the same wedding.  That was 1987, and we've been together ever since. P.S. We have never gotten around to getting married ourselves.  P.P.S. The couple whose wedding we were in divorced about four years later.

I have two children, a daughter and a son.

I was a child actor.  I did hundreds of commercials, commercial jingles, and voiceovers.  I also did musical theater and some bit parts on TV shows.  After college, I lived in New York City, where I did freelance recording work.  I also sang backing vocals in a band (and its rebooted incarnation) and toured the US and Europe.  When I wasn't working (which in the "entertainment" field is OFTEN), I wandered around NYC with my camera.  A friend of mine, who was just starting her career as a real estate agent, suggested that I take her listing photos for her.  That was the beginning of a life in parallel careers revolving around real estate, photography, and music in one way or another, ever since.

Some other random facts about me:

My name is Sharon.  I was the only Sharon in my school until 9th grade.

I was born in 1965.  I consider the 70's the last great decade to be a kid.

I am seriously claustrophobic.

I'm extremely fidgety and constantly moving, even if it appears that I'm sitting still.

I have this thing for wild birds.  One time I had so many bird feeders in my yard I got rats.  That wasn't so fun.

I also have this thing for mid-century modern anything, from the 40's right up to the end of the 70's.  I fully believe the avocado kitchen should make a comeback.

I also have this thing for classic Volkswagens.

I am quite proficient at the art of profanity.

When I'm anxious or stressed, I yawn nonstop.  When I'm really anxious or stressed, I absent-mindedly hold my breath which results in extremely loud hiccups.

I'm somewhat of a nonconformist.  Some people have described me as an anarchist, but I think that's stretching it a bit.

I never feel thirsty.  Therefore, I forget to drink.  I'm always dehydrated.

I have a small collection of old typewriters, and I still use them.  I love to type.  P.S. when I took typing class in school, I started out as the worst typist in the class.  At the end of the class, I could type 80 words per minute with no errors.

I do not like garlic.  Or cilantro.  Or avocados.  Gah.

I'm a master at the art of forgery.  Call it a gift, but I can copy anybody's handwriting.  I was the kid in school who everyone went to for a forged note or a report card signature.

I'm also an excellent mimic, which is how I got into voiceover work as a child.

I am not a good traveler.  I like being places, but I don't enjoy getting there.  I have, at times, whined like a toddler while traveling.

I like all kinds of music.  The Monkees were my first love, but I'm a classic rock girl at heart.  I'm also a major Deadhead.  I also love Woody Guthrie and 30's and 40's standards.
